Jaw Pain Or Clicking | TMJD

TMJD

So I have jaw pain and clicking. What is it?

The jaw is a hinge joint call the Temporal Mandibular Joint. When it has dysfunction or is not working properly we shorten the name to TMJD.

How is it caused?

A number of causes can be responsible for TMJD. Most common is grinding your teeth at night due to stress. However even poor denture alignment, long dental procedures, and an impact to the jaw can cause TMJD.

What can I do at home to help?

First thing is to find the cause. If its grinding of the teeth due to stress, you can try a mouth guard, massaging your jaw muscles, or doing a relaxing activity like light reading before bed.

What is the clicking and how can I make it go away?

The clicking is the improper movement and poor function of the jaw. The jaw essentially needs to be realigned to move better. This can be done by your chiropractor with the use of gentle adjustments to the jaw and neck.
