Plantar Fasciitis

What is Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar Fasciitis is a tearing of the tendon that goes from the calf muscle down to the ball of the foot.

How does this happen?

Sustained tension or an overly tight calf for a long period of time begins to fray the tendon. Over time this tear expands causing local swelling and pain. In some cases the patient is unable to walk due to the intense pain.

What can be done to treat Plantar Fasciitis?

Daily at home therapy for a period of 6-12 weeks is needed to successfully treat Plantar Fasciitis. Your chiropractor through the use of specific gentle chiropractic adjustments and therapies can help improve outcomes by reducing tension on the tendon. This combination of Chiropractic with home exercises has very high success rates in treating Plantar Fasciitis.

What happens if I do nothing or just take pain medications and injections?

In some cases pain medications and injections can be worse due to the fact that since the patient does not feel pain, the patient continues to further aggravate the injury. Over time the tendon will develop a bone spur which will need to be surgically removed but can grow back if the original cause is not treated.
